Kathryn Scheckel

After graduating from Xavier College Preparatory High School in Phoenix, Arizona, and receiving the prestigious Flinn Foundation scholarship in 2007, Kathryn began her studies at The Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University (ASU). She is currently pursuing majors in Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology, as well as Music (Piano Concentration).

In addition to her academic work, Kathryn is heavily involved with several student organizations on campus, and will be serving as the 2011-2012 President of The Triple Helix at ASU, a nonprofit international student organization that produces a biannual publication featuring undergraduate research on the interactions among science, society, business, ethics and law. She will also be helping to develop the campus organization Community Outreach and Advocacy for Refugees, in addition to working in the neurobiology lab of Dr. Carsten Duch on an independent research project.

Following her undergraduate work, Kathryn hopes to attend graduate programs in the fields of law, science, and business.

Interests and what I’m hoping to gain:

Interests include areas of social justice, human rights, law, and science and technology-related issues. I am hoping to gain from this internship refined moderating skills, as well as to have meaningful dialogues within my community on some of the most pressing issues facing modern day citizens to promote awareness and involvement in politics.
