Sarah Hayden is a junior at Arizona State University (ASU), studying Political Science with a Minor in Religious studies. She grew up in Tempe, AZ. She volunteers at the Lodestar Day Resource Center, a homeless community center that provides many services to the homeless people of Phoenix. She is an active member of the sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and is currently their Community Service Chairman. She has worked as a waitress at Montis La Casa Vieja, a steakhouse in Tempe, during the past four years. This May, she will visit Thailand to study Buddhist meditation and to do volunteer work. She is thinking about entering the Peace Corps after graduation.
Sarah discovered deliberative discussion and learned to facilitate deliberative discussions while taking a class with Dr. Crittenden at ASU. Although she is quite shy, Sarah really enjoyed leading these kinds of discussions and is looking forward to learning more about being a better facilitator. She hopes not only to create an environment for others to share their thoughts on different topics, but also to become more open minded herself by learning about different points of views.
