Summer Institutes

In 2006 and 2009, the Interactivity Foundation sponsored Summer Institutes with selected faculty from around the country. Our objectives for these conferences were to work with interested faculty members to have them first learn our approach to facilitated, small-group discussion, and then collaborate with them in adapting key aspects of that process to student-centered classroom discussions for one or more of their college courses.

Both of these summer programs were held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and each was an intense, highly interactive, and successful experience for both the faculty and for IF.

In early 2012, we partnered with Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, to collaborate on a two-year initiative to incorporate student-centered discussion processes into first-year seminar courses on that campus beginning with the 2012-13 academic year. For more information, please see our press release about this initiative or listen to IF Vice President Jeff Prudhomme and Wesleyan English Professor Matt Martin discuss this program and student-centered discussion generally in our January 2012 podcast, “Lift Every Student Voice.
