Community Conversations

We promote, support, and practice the use of Exploratory Discussion in multiple settings. We refer to Exploratory Discussions that are held in various communities, whether communities of place or other common interest, as “Community Conversations.” These conversations may be a part of a larger civic engagement project and are often convened in partnership with other organizations, including other nonprofits, public or governmental organizations, and informal associations or groups. In other cases, we may independently organize and convene Community Conversations of our Discussion Guides. More frequently, however, we partner with libraries, museums, community foundations, and other nonprofit and public service organizations to bring people together for one or more sessions of participatory, engaged, and in-depth Exploratory Discussion. These Community Conversations often use one of our Discussion Guides as a starting point. We may also work with partners to develop customized discussion materials for that community. We look for opportunities to work with other organizations to help them in convening Community Conversations that engage the public in Exploratory Discussion.
