Hayden Mauk is an Emmy Award–winning producer and director whose 25-year career has been shaped by a single guiding question: What if? What if I don’t use my biology degree and instead move to California to pursue entertainment?
That question set Hayden on a lifelong path of storytelling, one that explores what it means to be human and how the stories we tell can help us see ourselves in one another. From late-night television with Jimmy Kimmel Live! to adventure and competition series like American Ninja Warrior, and more than a decade of culinary storytelling alongside Gordon Ramsay and Andrew Zimmern, Hayden’s career has always been fueled by curiosity and the belief that great stories start with being human, how we react, relate, and reach for understanding when life puts us in unexpected situations.
He also had the privilege of working with César Millán on César 911, where every episode ultimately revealed that the problem wasn’t the dogs, it was our human inability to communicate. That insight continues to guide his work: everything in life begins with how we communicate.
That lifelong “What if” mindset has now come full circle, leading Hayden to ask the same question with a bigger purpose: What if storytelling could help strengthen democracy through discussion? As Creative Director at the Interactivity Foundation, Hayden channels his creative vision into helping people imagine new ways to connect, collaborate, and build civic trust through the power of story.
Fun fact: one of Hayden’s early “What if” moments landed him a small but memorable role on General Hospital as “Krote,” a hitman hired to kidnap Carly from Sonny on behalf of Alcazar. Ask him how that went and why Jimmy Kimmel re-aired it that night just to make fun of him.
Hayden holds a BA in Biology from Transylvania University, a foundation that continues to shape his curiosity about the systems, natural, cultural, and civic, that sustain life and community. His career and life continue to be guided by two simple ideas: “What if?” and “Yes, that sounds fun, I’ll give that a try.”
